Expedition to the Cheesewring Y2 – Y6 Boyton Primary School
A huge thanks to Mrs Blackbird and Ollie for leading a fantastic day on Bodmin Moor! For many children, this was their first experience of being on the open moorland but the mid-morning mizzle certainly didn’t get chance to dampen spirits!
The children loved the ‘warm-up’ activities. They really got to appreciate the landscape, creating some beautiful postcard art using nature’s inks. They were intrigued by the legends of the Hurlers and learnt some very helpful map reading skills as part of the orienteering challenge in preparation for the expedition in the afternoon.
The trek to the Cheesewring provided amazing views and a real sense of achievement. In groups, they used maps to spot features to identify their location and mark their route. However, the highlight for many was the climb up on to the highest point of the tor - amongst the wind , such a sense of awe and wonder was had by all!
